Eddie

This is Eddie.  I had been running for about a week and had passed this man every day but never acknowledged him.  One day, I was prompted to stop and visit.  I told him, "I have jogged by you every day now for about a week but have never stopped, Hi, my name is Jeff, what is your name?"  He said, "Yes, I see you every day but you just go on by, my name is Eddie.  Thank you for stopping to talk to me."  It turns out that Eddie lives alone, and walks a mile each day to catch the bus to go to his job washing dishes at a downtown taco shop.  He is a very humble man who is doing his best.  It made my day to stop and talk with him.  I thought about him all day and was looking forward to seeing him the next day, but did not see him for a few days.  When I did see him, he was about a block ahead of me on the other side of the road but he was waving his arms to have me come and talk with him.  It was a great little visit.  Luckily, I had my phone with me so I took this selfie, it was his first selfie!  Meeting Eddie made me wonder about how many people wish we would notice them.  I am challenging myself to be aware of the people around me and reach out and say hello.  Eddie has made an impact on my life, I hope I can impact the lives of others in a positive way like Eddie has mine

Be a Friend

It seems that so many people struggle with many things these days.  One of them is a sense of belonging, or friendship.  I have always thought that my true friends are people who make it easier to live the gospel of Jesus Christ.   It is a form of benevolence to be a friend.  In the sense of being a friend, seeking another person’s highest good is the essence of true friendship. It is putting someone else first. With social media, the term “friend” is often used to describe a contact rather than an actual relationships.  With social media, we have the ability to send your “friends” a message, but this is not the same thing as having a relationship with a person one on one.  True friends influence others to rise a little higher and be a little better.  Lets all try to be a better friend. Let us all try to find an opportunity to serve someone this week.

Gratitude

We are so lucky.  If you are not convinced of that, trade places with the person who is having to ask for help on the street corner.  Do something nice for somebody else today!
